Oh how technology has changed since I was born! Just two generations and:
1.) Your birth date can be set by your doctor! Yes, I know it's for the mother and child's best physical interest, but it does give the family advance warning to gather together to experience the event as a group.
2.) Pictures? A black-and-white piece of paper from a "brownie box camera" vs. a color, digital image captured with a "TELEPHONE"!
3.) Telephone? Where's the wires?
Well, enough of the flash-backs. My first grandchild, Addison Sue Baker, entered our world on the afternoon July 31st, 2007, weighing six pounds and nineteen ounces and standing 19.25 inches. Please enjoy these images, captured on the day that Addie joined us in this world. (And a few images from the following days.)
Addie's grand parents await her arrival at the hospital. Left-to-right; Pam McPeak (Doug's Mother), your's truely (Doug's Father), Ray Luis (Shari's Father), Linda Luis (Ray's Wife), Shelia ??? (Shari's Mother) and Tom ??? (Shela's Husband). Yea, it looks like we are smiling but actually, we are all gritting our teeth, wondering how the day will end.
Less than an hour-old, Addie's Great Aunt, ??? captures this image of her in her Mother's arms. (Yea, that's Doug's hand in the upper-left, staying close, just in case....)
A few minutes later, GrandPa Baker is allowed in to the room with his camera and here is his first glympse of his Grand Daughter, held by her father with her Mother smiling about something ......
Dad is only too happy to show off the latest addition to his family.
It's time for Grand Ma Sheila to show off her latest Grand Child.
Family is chased out and it's time for Addie's first bath. Through the maternity window, we get this glimpse of her as the nurse dries her after "the bath".
Papa needs some pictures, too, but Shari's camera settings have him stumped for a moment. .....
.... but not for too long. He's soon ready to spread the news to the world, "It's a GIRL!"
Mother and Father practice, "The Hand-Off". Something they will do countless times over the next few months.
About a week later, some pictures captured at home in Little Elm, Texas.
Ready to travel. Note her size in this carrier as we will see Addie in it again, many times, as she GROWS!
At two weeks old, the Bakers take this opportunity to capture four generations in one image. Left-to-right, my Mother, LaQuita, my Son, holding Addie, and your's truely. Thanks, Shari, for capturing us together!
A couple of weeks later, and Addie's half-sister, Kinley, shows us how happy she is to take care of "Little Sister".
